These differences can affect clarity and make some English words harder for listeners to understand.This American English vowel pronunciation course for Chinese speakers is designed to help learners hear and produce the vowel contrasts that are most important for clear speech. It contrasts and explains the difference between the Chinese vowels and the American English vowels, some which are similar, but many which are not.
I created this 41-lesson self-study American English vowel pronunciation course just for Chinese speakers of English. It provides detailed instruction and practice with the vowel sounds of American English, and describes the similarities and differences of the Chinese vs American vowels. I have included many videos, which show clearly and systematically how to form the vowel sounds and when they are used, as well as when they are confused with other vowels. The spelling of English does not tell us how to pronounce the vowels, so this phenomenon is also discussed and examples are given.
